Stepping onto Uncharted Waters
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (Mathew 14:28 NKJ)
Walking on the water? Who, me? Don’t, don’t look down into the deep dark bottomless deep, or out to the shore line so far away. Just keep your eyes on Jesus, and His hand extended.
We can all relate to the fear Peter must have felt as he was walking on the water to get to Jesus. Could be as scary as an interview for a new job, or as simple as calling a friend to admit you were wrong. The word “water” in scripture many times is used symbolically for new birth. I think also of new beginnings, or maybe even a new ‘you’. For me right now it’s starting this blog.
So, here it is… my first ever blog post. It has taken me a while to get here. I am from the generation that grew up without cell phones, computers or laptops. So, yes, I am on a learning curve, and yes, I could intimidate myself into silence. But I have to start somewhere. So here I am!
Did you notice that Peter asked Jesus to command him to walk on the water to him? That’s when Peter had the courage to do it, when he knew Jesus said “Come”. This shows me that I need to keep my eyes on God when I need direction and encouragement.
Why am I attempting to start a blog? In short, because I am a writer. I am the person who feels the need to share the awesome ideas that run through my mind. I form plots and stories in my head as I walk the streets. I wake up in the middle of the night with the most incredible idea for a character in my novel and have to stumble around in the dark to find pen and paper to jot it down. When reading the Bible, I am given beautiful or encouraging insights that I know would bless others. I am moved to write, and stirred to share my words with others.
So, what can you expect from my blog, Salty Waters?
· Encouragement and insights from a close look at scripture.
· Laughs and sometimes tears from true accounts of my life.
· Gentle and timely reminders of the God’s love and care for us.
So, here it is, my first foot is out of the boat and my toes are being tickled by the cool ripples of salty water.
To Consider: What could be some ‘unchartered waters’ for you today?
